Teacher — Freedom

By Poe

I am a teacher.
I wonder if I will ever survive this school year.
I hear my students yelling and screaming.
I see students dressed inappropriately.
I want to go home.
I am a teacher.
I pretend to ignore these kids.
I feel very stern.
I worry if these students will pass the MCAS.
I cry when they tell me that they can’t do it.
I am a teacher.
I say to myself, Try your best and work hard.
I dream of leaving school.
I hope for freedom.
I am a teacher.
