The Man Today

Today, I live in Western Massachusetts.

My life is quieter than it used to be. But quieter does not always mean easier.

Trauma has a way of staying with you. PTSD does not leave just because the circumstances change. Old memories can make simple moments feel heavy.

But there is one major difference between then and now.

I am no longer running through the streets searching for my next escape.

I am trying to build a future.

Recovery is not a straight line. Healing is not forgetting. Healing is learning how to carry everything you survived and still choose to move forward.

The boy with the red dictionary was searching for words because words made sense when the world didn’t.

The man today uses those words to make sense of everything he survived.
